Weather During the Summer
Summer in Latvia is my favourite season of the year. Yes, I know - I have already bragged about how much I love spring and winter, but come on, summer's the butter! Winters are way too cold, and springs are just a pre-play for the big event - The Summer! You know - girls with swimsuits, birds chirping and the ice-creams... (At the beaches basically)
I would say that summers here are pretty much like in any other decently warm country, except the factor that it's amazingly green. No, seriously, if someone would ask me to describe this season in just three words, I would most definitely choose these three:
- Warm
- Sunny
- Green
Alright then! Let's get to the analytic part of this article!
Summer in Latvia lasts from the start of June till the end of August. July is the hottest month, with the air temperature reaching even 30 and 35 degrees, but the average temperature is usually around 19°C. In Latvia during summer you can sunbathe and swim on the long sandy beaches or take a dip in on of Latvia's clean and beautiful lakes. However, when choosing your clothes, you should remember that summer evenings in Latvia can be quite cool.
During the second half of summer it often rains; moreover, July and August is characterised by a climate phenomenon typical of Latvia – thunderstorms, sometimes accompanied by strong gusts of wind and heavy showers.
Oh, I should also mention, that during the summer the temperature is usually a little bit higher in the eastern part of Latvia - the Latgale region, also known as the land of the blue lakes.
