Weather During the Spring
Spring in Latvia is great. The snow is melting, the sun is shining, and grandmas are starting to grow out of the park benches. Literally - when the temperature reaches around +5°C, you can be sure, that Grandma season has started. This is the time when the old people are starting to show some signs of life, and getting out of their houses and apartments to witness the first green sprouts of grass and flowers growing out of the recently unfrozen ground.
I think that the Spring season is actually the most beaututiful time of the year in Latvia (at least for Latvians) - you just can't imagine, how good does it feel to finally be touched by the first rays of the warm spring sun. It is a nice change after the 4-5 months of winter coldness. Oh, and the scent of the first flowers... astonishing!
To be clear, we, Latvians, consider that the spring in Latvia has officially started when the temperature outside exceeds 0°C (Officially from the 1st of March till 31st of May). Seriously, when the temperature is around +5 +10°C, you will see lots of people running around wearing just shorts and regular t-shirts. I'm not saying, that we are as immune to cold as Russians, but, as a Nordic country, we are pretty close to it. But yeah, it's actually pretty common for the cold weather to last even till the end of the March, so we are really happy when it's gone at last.
Anyhow, spring is not about cold. It's about warmth, sunshine, twittering of birds, and, of course, the rapid high waters in rivers (Everything is over-flooding, so it looks kind of cool)
I will also note, that the ratio of 1/3 sunny vs cloudy days is not valid during the end of the spring and summer seasons. (It's close to 50/50 actually)
The first couple of pictures of the gallery below will be a little dreary, but hey, remember, what I said about the sunny day ratio!
